Medh-Paat
Mewad was originally called "Medhpaat" and Lord Shiva (Ekling Nath) is called Medhpateshwar (Lord of Medhpaat). Over time, the name Medhpath became Mewad. The Mewar region lies between the Aravali Range to the northwest, Ajmer to the north, Gujarat and the Vagad region of Rajasthan to the south, the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh state to the southeast and the Hadoti region of Rajasthan to the east.

The  Hatkar  (archaically transliterated as  HattiKara  or  Barhatta  ,  BaraHatti  ) are an  Indian warrior caste , found predominantly in the state of  Maharashtra . The word "hat" means obstinacy in Marathi and "kar" means doer meaning obstinate.  Hatkar  is the subcast of  Dhangar  Community. About 108 clans(108 कुळ/कुल) of Dhangars and 22 sub castes (22 पोट जाती).

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
