History of Solanki clan(Clan in Pundra Dhangars)




Solanki is the clan of Koli(Fisherman) community.They have major contribution at Sumerian civilization at ancient Mesopotamia(Present Iran and Iraq).Solanki koli people are found in Gujrath.Raja Bhimdev Solanki the founder of Mumbai city was Koli King.Dravidian Coorg(Kodava) a warrior community also belongs to Pundra clan.Still Mahadev Koli community of Pandharpur(Paundrapur) have there rights regarding worship of Lord Vitthal.
Pundra Dhangars were originally ancient Kshatriya of Solanki and Pratihar/Parihar gotra but degraded to Shudra status due to curse of Saga Vishwamitra and left out Vedic traditions.Maurya/Kalchurya/Kachare/Chedi and Shakya(Clan in which lord Budhha born) belong to Pundra clan of Dhanagrs.

About 108 clans(108 कुळ/कुल) of Dhangars and 22 sub castes (22 पोट जाती).

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
