Medan (son of Abraham/Brahma):The early Medes

There is also another "Haran" in India-today's state of Haryana. It is the region where Brahma decided to stop making idols and worship only one God and become A-Brahma.
According to the Bible, Medan also spelt Madan was the third son of Abraham, the patriarch of the Israelite's, and Keturah whom he wed after the death of Sarah(Saraswati).

Historically, the Medanites dwelt alongside the Mitanni and they formed a kingdom in the 10th and 9th centuries BC. It is for this reason that historians call the Mitanni(Sanskrit speakers) the "early Medes.
Regarding the physical type of the Medes, all historians mention that the earliest tribes of the Medians(Sons of Madan) "belonged to the Aryan stock"and as such were an Indo-European people and that they formed a ruling class over the descendants of Madai(Hurrians).This Mede ruling class called themselves Arioi or Arii meaning Aryan.

    Excellent article! In my studies I also identify the sons of Medan and the Mittani with the Indo-Aryans, and the Midianites with Iranians.

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
