Govt. Holkar Science College, Indore.

The college was established on 10th of June ,1891 by the ruler of the erstwhile Indore (Holkar) dynasty Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar in the memory of his father Maharaja Tukoji Rao Holkar to meet the requirement of education in this central provinces. As no building was available , initially the classes were started in Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar school for some years. A new building was constructed in 1894 in Navlakha area beautifully situated and full of countless trees. In the beginning Subjects Taught were English Literature, Sanskrit, Persian, Logic, History, Political Economy, Math's & Science. Oxford University graduate and Bar-at-law Mr. E.C. Cholmondeley became the first regular Principal of this College. The College is now affiliated to Devi Ahilya University of Indore.

About 108 clans(108 कुळ/कुल) of Dhangars and 22 sub castes (22 पोट जाती).

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
