Khatake (खटके) is the clan found in Dhangars of Maharashtra
Khatak (खटक) Khattak (खट्टक) is a clan also found in Afghanistan.The great Barak clan is of the Khatak tribe.H. W.Bellew writes that Seventh satrapy (Kshatraps) of Darius the great(Dara-1 of Achaemenid Empire/अजमीढ़ साम्राज्य) consisted of Sattagydai, or "Sattag kindred," are now represented by the Khattak, Shattak, Sattak, and Shitak or Sitak tribes of the Indus border.
H. W. Bellew writes that Khattak tribe inhabits the barren, rocky, and parched country on each bank of the Indus for upwards of a hundred miles along its course, from a little above the confluence of the Kabul river at Attock.

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
