Hotar was the group of priest people who called God at the time of Yadnya by fire at vaidik time and the lord fire has their vehicle as Sheep and the same thing in today's time which is followed by Dhangar(Shepherd) people in Maharashtra which is Gaji nrutya at the time of night when they start fire and dance Gaji nritya by plying Drum and Mouthpiece/Whistle(Marathi Pipani)

About 108 clans(108 कुळ/कुल) of Dhangars and 22 sub castes (22 पोट जाती).

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
