Khatri have surnames like Kapoor,Chopda,Malhotra,Mehara,Khanna,Arora etc..Dasrath Sharma described Khatris as a mixed pratiloma caste of low ritual status but suggested that Khatris could be a mixed caste born of Kshatriya (Shepherds are called as Kshatriya by Brahmins) fathers and Brahmin mothers. Khatris consider themselves to be of pure Vedic descent and thus superior to other claimants to kshatriya status, such as the Rajputs.Khatris claim that they were warriors who took to trade.The 19th-century Indians and the British administrators failed to agree whether the Khatri claim of Kshatriya status should be accepted, since the overwhelming majority of them were engaged in Vaishya (mercantile) occupations.The Khatris of Gujrat and Rajasthan are said to have tailoring skills like "Darji" (tailor) caste.
Many people have doubt that if Khatris were once warriors, then, why they are found to be involved in merchant and scribe occupation.But due to Brahminisation of Shepherds history these peoples don't know that merchant communities are emerged from Shepherds due to division of labor among brothers of the one family.

About 108 clans(108 कुळ/कुल) of Dhangars and 22 sub castes (22 पोट जाती).

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
