Origin of Chitpavan Brahmins in Maharashtra is Greek(महाराष्ट्र के चितपावन ब्राह्मण ग्रीक/यवन वंशी है).Haplogroup R1a :Male DNA(पुरुष डीएनए) 
Haplogroup R1a is believed to have its origins in the Indus Valley or the Eurasian Steppe.The most likely place of origin of R1a cattle herders is steps of Central Asia or southern Russia/Siberia.Some think it might have originated in the Balkans(East Europe) or around Pakistan and Northwest India.R1a-Z93 or R1a1 is the main Asian branch of R1a. It is found in Central Asia, South Asia and Southwest Asia (including among Ashkenazi Jews). R1a-Z93 is the marker of historical Indo-Aryan peoples such as the Iranians/Persians (Medh),Medes(Madane,Mittani and Kurd),Tatars,and pervaded(प्रवेश करना/घुस जाना) the genetic pool of the Arabs and Jews.

There are total 108 exogamous groups (clans) of Dhangars found all over India.These clans found Three and half main sub divisions due to division of labour among brothers of one family(एक ही परिवार के सदस्यो में काम का विभाजन हो गया).These are Shepherds(Hatti/Hatkar,Pal,Kuru/Kuruba,Gadariya etc..),Cow herders/Ahir (Yadu and Gawali) or Buffalo keepers(Mahaskar/Gurjar/Gujjar) and wool and blanket weavers (Khutekar,Sangar and Shegar).The half division is butchers(Khatik).All sub sects fall in either of these division.The number three and half is not random selection but has a religious and cosmological significance.
